Knockout Cup 2008

A Team win the Knockout Cup!

After the recent disappointment of losing their final league match of the season, the A team were hoping to perform a little better at the annual Knockout Cup tournament.
This year we played the competition on the new pitches at the Glasgow Green complex.
The 44th had 3 teams competing this year and a healthy support from our parents gave the boys some much needed encouragement.
The A and B teams met at the semi final stage and our A team proved just too strong for the B team battlers!
In the final we were up against the 167 and at half time things looked a little bleak as we were 1-0 behind.
After a couple of positional changes we took control of the game and 2 excellent goals from Richard and Ross put us 2-1 ahead.
The last few minutes were very tense and special mention must go to Kyle for 3 excellent saves to ensure we held on to win the trophy for the 4th year running.
Well done to all our teams today!!!

The A Team only needed a draw to secure the league title; unfortunately, the boys produced their poorest performance of the season.
To be honest there was only one team in it today; the 167 were worthy winners.
This result means that there will be a league play off on 26th April at 10.00am - good luck to the A team for that one!

The big story this weekend was the B Team's first league win of the season. The boys have been improving week on week and 3 goals from James was the icing on the cake - well done to all of the B team.
The A team had to negotiate a tricky 4 - 0 win over the ever-improving 34th side. Just before the break Ben ran on to a long kick out from Kyle to open the scoring and 2 minutes later Jordan doubled the lead with a good shot into the right hand corner. Two scrappy second half goals ensured that the A team stay top of the table with 1 game remaining.
It's title decider day next Saturday!!

The A team got off to the perfect start with a lovely chipped goal from Jordan within the first 15 seconds. The A team were always in command and ran out comfortable winners in the end. Scorers today were Jordan (5), Ben (4), Kyle and an OG.
The B team had a tight match with the 167B and were unlucky to go down 5 - 3. The B team are still hoping to win their first league match of the season but are not that far away.

Both teams were back in action after last weeks postponements due to heavy snow.
The B team were first up against the 167A; the age difference was a huge factor with our team struggling to compete with the older 167 boys. The B team tried hard and will hopefully learn from some of their mistakes.
The next game was a complete role reversal with our A team just too strong for the opposition. The 167B started well and held out for the first ten minutes before Ben started the goal rush. Scorers today were Ben and Jordan with four each, Stewart with two, Ross with one, and a final own goal. Next up is the local derby!!

A great performance from the A team this morning after a bad start.

The 167 took an early lead when some poor defending resulted in the ball dropping into an empty goal. The A team responded well and goals from Ben and Jordan gave us a 5 - 1 lead at the break. The defence had to be reshuffled just after half time as Dylan had to leave for the Panto - Oh yes he did!!! More goals from Ben (who eventually scored 4) and Jordan (5) saw us run out comfortable winners in the end. Roll on the second half of the season!

After the early morning sponsored walk both teams set off to Sandwood for the first A v B match this season.

The A team started well and the strong wind made it difficult for the B team to get out of their own half. The A team were 3 -0 ahead but goals from Matthew and Lewis gave the A team a bit of a fright to bring it back to 3 - 2.
The A team responded well and ran out 7 - 2 winners in the end.
A team scorers today were Ben (3), Ross (2) Jordan and Kyle (who played outfield today!)

The A team were first up today and the match was a lot tougher than the 5 - 1 scoreline suggests. They got off to a good start and even missed a first half penalty but goals from Ben (2) Ross (2) and Jordan secured the three points.

The B team took a shock early lead against the 167B through an OG but the 167 levelled with a good breakaway goal just before half time. The B team played well but the 167 played better in the second half with the wind behind them and scored twice more making the final score 3-1.

The 44B opened their league campaign with a good performance and the team grew in confidence as the match progressed.

The boys were rewarded with their efforts when Alan fired in a low shot from a very tight angle to make the final score 3 - 1 for the 119/163.

The A team played very well throughout their match with a comfortable 9 - 0 win against the 34th. Ben (5) and Jordan (4) shared all the goals this morning.
