Four Four at the Double
After securing the league title a few weeks ago, the boys were
looking forward to the end of season Knockout Cup at the Ibrox Complex.
The "A" and "B" teams were in separate groups with the "A" team
looking like having the slightly easier draw.
The "A" team won all of their group matches to
comfortably progress through to the semi final
stage. The highlight was a superb free kick from Johnny that
flew into the top corner of the net.
The "B" team played well in all of their matches and although
they lost all of the games they were unlucky to go down 2-1 to the
163 after being 2-0 down. Ross Moore ran
on to a good pass from Josh and scored a good goal to set up an
exciting finish.
So it was on to the semi final where the "A" team were drawn
against the 119th. The "A" team got off to the
worst possible start - losing a deflected goal inside the first
minute. The boys got themselves back in the match a few minutes
later when Sam finished off some good passing to draw the sides
level. It was then end to end stuff, but both defences were
on top and a draw was probably the correct result.
The tie then had to be decided by penalty kicks and as usual
this turned out to be very nerve racking for
both teams. In the end we managed to
scrape through 5-4 with all seven players having to take a kick.
It was then on to the final where we met the 34th.
The boys were on top for most of this match but in the end
a single solo effort from Sam was all that
separated the two teams. Everyone was delighted to hear the
final whistle as it meant that, for the first time in 5 years -
we were the league AND cup winners.
Well done to the "A" team and a big thank you for all of the
supporters who turned out to watch the boys throughout the winter.
